As you purchase your Christmas presents this year, it is extremely likely that you will be offered insurance on your purchases. As you are buying the goods for somebody else, often you can feel obliged to purchase the insurance for them too just in case something does go wrong. However, be warned – many insurance deals offered to you during the Christmas period will be an absolute waste of time!

What many people do not realise about insurance cover that they are offered on their purchases, is that often it does not actually cover what they think that it does. If you take the time to read the small print, you soon realise that the deal is not quite as attractive as you first thought that it was. For example, some insurance policies do not cover items that were damaged under a number of circumstances. Somehow, insurance companies always seem to turn the blame onto you, ensuring that they do not have to pay you a penny.

If you do want insurance then it is advisable that you shop around. Often the insurance that you are offered with the purchase is not the cheapest available to you. You may think that it is the only type of insurance you can get for your goods, but in fact there are many companies out there who will cover the items for a lower cost. It is just a matter of doing a little research and finding a good deal to suit you.

The main thing that you want to watch out for is insurance that is being offered for low cost items. There are some stores who will offer you insurance on something that you have paid just £5 for. Obviously you do not really need insurance for an item that cost so little and so it would just be a waste of money if you did take any protection out for it.

Overall insurance can be handy for larger items. However, do not just accept the offer given to you from the store you are purchasing the goods from as it will not be the cheapest option available to you.
